General
How long does taxidermy take?
Smaller or less complex projects may take several months. Larger, detailed or multi-species work may take longer depending on species, treatment requirements, permit processing and current workload.
What is needed to get started?
The team will need your contact details, trophy information, service requirements and any pose or presentation preferences. A quotation and 50% deposit are required before work begins.
Are custom poses and habitats available?
Custom poses, bases and habitat details can be discussed during the quotation stage so the final presentation suits the animal and the space where it will be displayed.
Services and Preparation
What is Dip & Pack?
Dip & Pack prepares hides, skulls and horns for export through cleaning, treatment, drying, documentation support and protective packing for the appropriate freight or export specialist.
What is tanning?
Tanning preserves hides so they can be used for mounts, rugs, wall displays or suitable decorative applications while retaining texture, colouring and flexibility where possible.
Can older mounts be repaired or restored?
Older mounts can be assessed for cleaning, repair or restoration. The result depends on the condition of the mount, previous preparation and the materials used.
Pricing and Payment
What does taxidermy cost?
Pricing depends on the species, size, pose, service type, presentation details and export preparation required. Request the current pricelist or send a project enquiry for guidance.
Is a deposit required?
A 50% deposit is required before work begins. The final balance is settled before release, crating or transfer for export.
Is shipping quoted separately?
Freight and export companies may provide separate shipping quotations. Costs can vary by destination, crate size, documentation and destination-country requirements.
Trophy Care and Compliance
How should a completed mount be cleaned?
Dust should be removed gently with a soft cloth or suitable duster. Avoid harsh chemicals and contact the studio for professional cleaning or restoration advice.
Should mounts be kept out of sunlight?
Yes. Direct sunlight and moisture can damage hides, colour and finish over time. Display mounts in a dry, stable indoor environment.
What documentation may be required?
Requirements vary by species and destination. Work and transport must align with applicable South African and international wildlife, veterinary, conservation and export regulations.
